Holla holidays, time for some random sketching.

Thanks for the support everybody. The results made my day!

10 Things That Should Never Go Out of Style

14 Apr

When I got sick of Renvoi and Ruritania yesterday, I flipped through Scott Schuman’s book. 10 things popped out at me. Quick sketching really helps to destress. I totally swear by it. On a happier note, school’s finally out!

Malaise?

10 Apr

Lately, I revisited a recurrent thought. About how the system contorted me.

We were taught to go by the books. We were told if you don’t get into x school or y college, your life will be less than perfect. We were told that if you don’t go down z path, you will have no future. Really?

As long as you get satisfaction out of what you’re doing, I guess everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, then it’s not the end. I shall save you from the gloom talk – here’s something light-hearted.

A few opening words: I’m such a sell-out. No, I don’t actually think i’m thaaat awesome, invincible or legendary. This clip was tailored for something that needed me to be though.

First time doing video editing so pardon my amateurishness (A note on misrepresentation: Recycled a series of images I did previously of my dear friend Oli – lazy to recreate one with my face ha ha)

/edit I forgot all about this since I didn’t hear from them. But waow 06.05.2011 is a great day – they want to meet me next week. I’m surprised, happy… and I’d better start thinking of what to say.

I have nothing better to do. Actually, I do. Just that I don’t want to do it.

The Slowest Way to… Improve Birthrate

11 Feb

As I was working on my Work and Family essay, I read about the government’s woe about our dipping birthrates. This inspired me to create another image for “The Slowest Way to…” line of ads.  Ha that’s the problem with monomania – it is like a shadow, hard to shake off. Alas, I find this one more humorous than the other. If only I had started on my essay earlier.

Hi Emanuel Hahn Hyoseok! Happy 21st, you can finally join the club :>

Didn’t know what to get you, and even then, I’m not sure if a parcel will reach NY on time for your special day. Since you expressed liking for my dp, I dedicate an image in the same style to you! I’ve enjoyed reading your retrospective lj entires leading up to your 21st.. Very meaningful and insightful. Cheers to many more years of friendship ahead (assuming the 2012 prophecy doesn’t materialize ha) x

The Slowest Way to… Put Out a Fire

8 Feb

Argh I should be working on my Conflicts presentation – nvm, taking a quick breather is always good. Today during our break, Audrey and I spotted this interesting flyer.

In essence, I had to re-create an ad along the lines of “The Slowest Way to…” (as above). I’ve always wanted to further my art education yet my parents aren’t willing to sponsor me in my artistic pursuits, so this is a perfect opportunity.

Sigh, my sense of humour ain’t too good (many would attest to that) and I read somewhere that such jokes (as above) have a higher likelihood of making people laugh so I guess it’s worth a shot.

/edit. I was elated to have been selected for the scholarship. Sadly, the happiness was short-lived, as my parents told me that I can’t take it up, as I ought to graduate first before pursuing my ‘hobby’. Sigh, I would’ve wanted it to be more than a hobby, but oh well that sums up the story of my life.

Rinse and repeat.

Stasis is a Dream State

“…You come onto this planet with a crayon box. Now you may get the 8 pack, you may get the 16 pack but it’s all in what you do with the crayons – the colors – that you’re given.

Don’t worry about coloring within the lines or coloring outside the lines – I say color outside the lines, you know what I mean? Color all over the page; don’t box me in! We’re in motion to the ocean.”

Sounds so nice. But urgh i should be working on my assignment, and not getting caught up in this.. delicious dream state.

Why are Softballs so hard

29 Dec

I am a klutz. Compounded by the fact that Softballs seem mysteriously attracted to me, what results is often laughter or serious indentations.

Sometimes, I joke that I am on this earth to serve as a warning for others and to make them feel better about themselves. In a way, it turns negatives into positives.

If once in a while doing something accidental leads to a few others smiling for a few extra minutes each day, then I’m perfectly fine with it. I believe that the littlest of things can make the biggest difference, even if they are sometimes at the expense of…… yours truly.

My alternate reality

A question.

So what are people supposed to do if they want to avoid a collision (thud!) but still lie in the field, enjoying the clouds drifting by, listening to the grass grow—not thinking, in other words? Sound hard? Not at all. Logically, it’s easy. C’est simple. The answer is dreams. Dreaming on and on. Entering the world of dreams, and never coming out. Living in dreams for the rest of time.

In dreams you don’t need to make any distinctions between things. Not at all. Boundaries don’t exist. So in dreams there are hardly any collisions. Even if there are, they don’t hurt. Reality is different. Reality bites.

Reality, reality.

(Haruki Murakami)
